What is Phi Sigma Pi?
Phi Sigma Pi is a Coeducational National Honor Fraternity established in 1916. It was founded on the ideals of scholarship, leadership, and fellowship. Pitt's chapter (Alpha Omega) was founded in September 27, 1992.
Our Chapter's activities reflect the fraternity's ideals:
- Scholarship - Activities include multicultural outings and study hours.
- Leadership - By undertaking various service projects, one can learn about the problems facing today's society and can better shape their opinions and leadership skills.
- Fellowship - By working closely with others within our fraternity toward a common goal, fellowship is built.
Phi Sigma Pi is NOT, however, an honor society!
We are based on continuous academic achievements, not past accomplishments. We are an active group, working to help the community and better ourselves. Dedication is essential to the continued success of our fraternity.
How Can I Join?
The first step is coming to our informational meeting, known as the Smoker. There you will hear from the brothers and alumni, learn more about what we do, get a chance to meet and talk with brothers, and partake in a question and answer session.
From there, if you decide that Phi Sigma Pi is for you, you will be asked to attend various rush activities. Here, you will get to know the brothers, and we will get to know you. The more events that you are able to attend, the better we can get to know each other.
After the initial rush period is the initiation period. This is when you will be asked to learn the history of the fraternity, participate in study hours, complete a service project, fund-raiser and social project with your initiation class, all in preparation for becoming a brother in good standing. Upon successful completion of the initiation period, you will be inducted as a brother!
